This has been shown to be significantly associated with post-stroke disability as measured by the Modified Rankin Scale, especially across the better recovery levels. Need for post-stroke in-patient rehabilitation factors into this outcome. It is reliable, less prone to inter-observer variability than conventional grading scales, and needs no formal training. As continuous outcome it offers powerful possibilities for statistical analysis. In addition, it can easily be understood by the patient or the public.
