Short Description of Instrument
The Health and Behavior Inventory (HBI) consists of 20 items that measure the frequency of common post-concussive symptoms. There are three versions of the inventory – Child, Parent Current Version and Parent Retrospective Version. The Parent Retrospective Version is used for rating pre-injury symptoms retrospectively.
Sport-Related Concussion-Specific:
Advantages: Simple to use and developed specifically for pediatric mild traumatic brain injury. It has been used with increased frequency in the literature.
Limitations: It does not measure pre-injury symptoms by participant themselves.
Symptoms are rated on a 4 point Likert scale from 1=never to 4=often based on frequency over the past week. Scores are summed for a total score, with higher scores indicating more positive health behavior.
