Supplemental: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)
Short Description of Instrument
The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) – Fatigue is a patient-self report quality of life questionnaire which is part of a collection of disease, treatment and condition related scales that are used to complement the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – General (FACT-G) quality of life scale. This scale has 13 items which ask the patient to recall the past 7 days. The scale is designed for patient self-administration but may also be administered by trained administrator or via a computer. Average time to completion is less than 5-10 minutes. Translations in multiple languages are available.
Scoring
Items are answered on a scale of 0 to 4. Where 0 = Not at all; 1 = A little bit; 2 = Somewhat; 3 = Quite a bit; 4 = Very much.

There are multiple scoring options: subscale scores, total score, and a Trial Outcome Index (TOI). Scoring programs are available in SAS an SPSS.
Rationale/Justification
FACIT-Fatigue has been validated across more than 10 different conditions, and has the added advantage of being fully embedded in the PROMIS Fatigue item bank, so if one administers the FACIT-Fatigue, one can also obtain PROMIS Fatigue scores, via the existing linking table.
