Short Description of Instrument
The Parkinson's Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (PDQL) is a disease-specific instrument to assess quality of life in patients with Parkinson's Disease. The PDQL is comprised of 37 items making up 4 subscales: parkinsonian symptoms (14 items); systemic symptoms (7 items); emotional functioning (9 items) and social functioning (7 items).
Comments/Special Instructions
This questionnaire has been infrequently used.
Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Scoring: Patients indicate on a 5 point Likert scale (1-all of the time; 2-most of the time; 3-some of the time; 4-a little of the time; 5-never) how often they had trouble with each respective item in the last 3 months. Higher scores indicate better HRQL.
 
Psychometric Properties: The questionnaire has acceptable psychometric properties and has been reported to be sensitive to change.
Rationale/Justification
Strengths: Similar psychometric properties to the PDQ-39.
 
Weaknesses: Little validation and use outside of the developing group.
