Short Description of Instrument
The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (ICIQ-OAB) is a brief module that screens and assesses impact of symptoms of OAB on Quality of Life and outcomes of treatment.
 
As this questionnaire is short, it may be a useful adjunct to the IPSS because the ICIQ-OAB includes a question on urinary incontinence.
 
Note: An alternate, more comprehensive assessment tool for lower urinary tract symptoms would be ICIQ-MLUTS (males) and its companion ICIQ-FLUTS (females). Also, an ICIQ-Neuro scale is under development.
Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Scoring: The ICIQ-OAB is scored from 0-16 overall score with greater values indicating increased symptom severity. "Bother" scales (rated 0-10) are not incorporated in the overall score but indicate impact of individual symptoms for the subject.
Rationale/Justification
Strengths: Ease of administering and validated in idiopathic OAB
 
Weaknesses: Has not been validated in PD. Does not cover voiding dysfunction (urinary hesitancy, etc.) and therefore this aspect of lower urinary tract symptoms missed out. Has not been used in any PD studies.
