Short Description of Instrument

The Pediatric Test of Brain Injury (PTBI) measures neurocognitive and linguistic skills after brain injury in children. It is designed to be used in the acute stage for a baseline measure and then in subsequent stages of recovery. It is criterion-referenced and provides cutoffs for appropriate levels of ability for different ages for 10 subtests.
The PTBI is designed for children 6 to 16 years of age who are recovering from TBI.
Administration is approximately 30 minutes long and is in an interview format and can occur in one or two sessions.
Scoring

The PTBI consists of ten subtests: Orientation Tasks, Following Commands, Word Fluency, What goes Together, Digit Span, Naming, Story-Retelling, Yes/no/maybe, Picture recall and Signature and Story retelling-Delayed. An ability score can be calculated for each subtest.
