| Short Description of Instrument |
The Scales for Outomes in Parkinson's Disease Autonomic (SCOPA-AUT) were specifically constructed to assess non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (Visser et al., 2004). The SCOPA-AUT consists of 25 items assessing the following regions: gastrointestinal (7), urinary (6), cardiovascular (3), thermoregulatory (4), pupillomotor (1), and sexual (2 items for men and 2 items for women) dysfunction.

| Scoring and Psychometric Properties |
Scoring: Scores range from 0 (never) to 3 (often) for each question.
Psychometric Properties: The SCOPA-AUT has undergone validation and has at a high level been compared with Quality of Life and functional measures and was found to be acceptable. The scores increased significantly with increasing disease severity for all autonomic regions, except sexual dysfunction. The instrument suffers from a ceiling effect, and contains items (such as salivation, swallowing) that do not primarily reflect autonomic dysfunction.

| Rationale/Justification |
Strengths: Designed with the intent to assess autonomic symptoms in PD. Includes medications, sexual, drooling, and increased sweating.
Weaknesses: Doesn't include non-specific symptoms such as fatigue and dyspnea on exertion. Upper GI symptoms such as dysphagia may not be autonomic. Doesn't mention post-prandial lightheadedness, decreased sweating, or dry mouth/eyes. Doesn't ask if improved or worsened by anti-parkinsonian drugs. Suffers from the ceiling effect while being less robust and less content specific than COMPASS.
