The SPMSQ consists of 10 items

| Scoring |
There are 10 items. Scoring: Maximum = 10. 0-2 errors suggest normal mental function; 3-4 errors suggest mild cognitive impairment; 5-7 errors suggest moderate cognitive impairment.
= 8 errors indicate severe cognitive impairment (*= 1 error permitted if patient had school grade education or less; One less error is permitted if patient had education beyond high school level)
